raidė statusas T sritis informatika apibrėžtis ↑Abėcėlės elementas. Kiekviena raidė priklauso kuriai nors ↑rašto sistemai (pvz., lotynų, kirilicos) ir gali būti kelių kalbų abėcėlėse. Dėl to kalbant apie raides vengiama nurodyti jų priklausomybę kuriai nors kalbai. Pavyzdžiui, raidė Ą yra ne tik lietuvių, bet ir lenkų abėcėlėje. Tačiau ji priskiriama tik lotynų rašto sistemai. Paprastai kiekviena mažoji raidė turi ją atitinkančią didžiąją, nors yra išimčių, pvz., raidė ß (es-cet, vartojama vokiečių k.) yra tik mažoji. Koduotėse stengiamasi mažųjų ir didžiųjų raidžių kodus parinkti pagal tam tikrą sistemą. Pavyzdžiui, ISO 8859 koduotėse buvo stengtasi didžiųjų raidžių kodus parinkti 32 vienetais mažesnius negu jas atitinkančių mažųjų. Tačiau ši taisyklė ne visur galioja (pvz., koduotėje ISO 8859-13 raidžių Ŗ ir Æ kodai nuo jas atitinkančių mažųjų raidžių ŗ ir æ kodų skiriasi 16 vienetų). Dėl to lokalizuojant programas, turinčias didžiųjų raidžių keitimo mažosiomis operacijas, reikia patikrinti, ar jos teisingai atliekamos. Verčiant programinę įrangą reikia atkreipti dėmesį, kad kai kuriose kalbose didžiosios raidės vartojamos dažniau nei lietuvių kalboje.
